Chris Orr British, b. 1943
This is a previously un-exhibited painting from my series of works entitled "The Miserable Lives of Fabulous Artists". It shows the Fauves (an art movement at the turn of the 20th Century that included Henri Matisse, Andre Derain and Raoul Dufy whose works were characterised by bright colour and abstraction) having a picnic in the manner of Manet's Dejeuner sur l'herbe. Of course none of them owned a Citroen 2cv or a barbecue. Working on Japanese paper is an absolute joy. The water colour goes into the paper beautifully.
