This is a busy business. Before lock down the day was punctuated by the laughter and shouts of children going and coming home from school. The days of the Chelsea Tractor are giving way to the bicycle and the crocodile of yellow jacketed tots.
My painting is a celebration and a response to that social phenomenon, "The School Run"Shakespeare was spot on with his comparison between the schoolboy and the snail. For some the journey is full of dread, for some it is going from the frying pan to the fire and a few lucky swats, it is like a trip to the sweet shop. My own theory of education is that children should attend the School nearest to where they live, and make their way on their own as soon as possible. They might learn more on the journey than in the classroom or at home.
You will notice that the pied piper is going the other way and that the circus of the journey can take different forms. There are as many ways of taking the children to School as there are fish in the sea. In the sea however, only Whales have Schools.
